Artist Biography: Born Jean Laurent in Garchizy, near Nevers in France.. Active in Paris in 1830's? Moved to Spain in 1843, where he remained for the rest of his life. Changed his name to Juan Laurent, although he signed his work with the ambivalent "J. Laurent".Large photographic studio, J. Laurent y Cia., established in Madrid established 1856. Died somewhere between 1883 and 1890. cetainly before 1892. Studio owned by his stepdaughter,Catalina Melina Dosch de Roswag by 1883, her husband, Alfonso Roswag (d. 1899) was one of Laurent's principal assistants. Studio later carried on by Lacoste after 1900.;
