Artist Biography: Born 1 April 1911 in Oakland, California; spent childhood years 1916-1926 in HongKong, then returned to U.S. 1933-1938 as WPA artist.First of two Guggenheim fellowships in 1942. Army service in WW II. Moved to New York after the war, taught at Columbia University, Hunter College, and Famous Artists School in Westport CONNecticut. Painter and lithographer. Died May 12,2000 of pancreatic cancer in his home in Manhattan.
