Artist Biography: Also called Otho Vaenius or Venius. Born in Leyden in 1556, son Cornelis van Veen. died in Brussels 6 May 1629;Painter, draughtsman, author of several emblem books. Pupil of Isaac Swanenburgh in Leyden, Domenicus Lampsonius and Jean Ramey in LiËge ca. 172, Italy 1575-1580, 1585 in Brussels as court painter to Alexander Farnese, 1593 in Antwerp, teacher of Peter Paul Rubens in Antwerp 1596. His brother, Gysbert, engraved his designs after his death.
