Artist Biography: Best known for his Civil War subjects and for his landscapes of the American West. Worked Matthew Brady studio from mid-1850*s. Photographed Civil War with Brady, then with Alexander Gardner. Expeditionary photographer for U.S. Geological Survey 1867-1877. Printed for Army Corps of Engineeers 1875. Chief photographer, Supervising Architect/Treasury Dept. 1880 -1881. ~ ~
