Artist Biography: Painter, muralist, and stained-glass designer. Graduated from college, studied law, but in 1856 went to Europe to study art. Worked independently, studied in Paris where he was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites in England. Returned to the United States, went in 1859 to Newport, R.I., where he was influenced by the artist William Morris Hunt.
