Artist Biography: Chemist, linguist, archaeologist, and pioneer photographer. Best known for development of the calotype, an early photographic process that was an improvement over the daguerreotype (invented by L.-J.-M. Daguerre). Educated Rottingdean, Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge ( math and physics). Images in camera obscura 1840. Various inventions of photographic processes (Calotype 1841, photogravure 1858, etc.) Lived his whole life at Lacock Abbey, (National Trust property and preserved as a museum today).~ ~Talbot's calotypes involved the use of a photographic negative from which multiple prints could be made. The announcement of his method came but a few weeks after Daguerre's.
