Artist Biography: Painterand lithographer. Student of William Chase, of Kenneth Hayes Miller and of Robert Henri. Exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York and obtained a prize in 1908. Was among the "Fifteen Group." In 1909 he occupied a studio neighboring a sports club, where he would go to watch boxing matches, his preferred subject. He also represented street scenes with simple people going about their daily activities, and these are rendered more with tenderness than with irony. From 1916 forth, Bellows used lithography to express his distaste and his revulsion over the first World War. ~~Reference: Mason, Lauris.
