Artist Biography: Born 1812 in BesanÁon.Designer for textile firm in Mulhouse 1831. Own studio by 1848. Began photography ca. 1853 to reproduce flowers for artists. 1854 first landscape views. Official photographer to Napoleon III. Large business of reproducing works of art. Firm became Braun & Cie. 1876 (lasted into 20th c.) Died 31 Dec. 1877 in Dornach.
