Artist Biography: Writer, art patron, etcher, maker of chiaroscuro woodcuts; born in Venice 1680, died there 1757. His chiaroscuro woodcuts printed in limited editions of 30, after which the blocks were burned (see A.M.Hind, Rembrandt Catalogue, p. 33), published as: Raccolta di varie Stampe a Chiaroscuro, Venice, 1749. Known for the 18th century revival of the chiaroscuro woodcut. Published illustrated catalogues of all the Greek and Roman statues of Venice.
