Artist Biography: Called Il Semolei. Painter and printmaker, born ca. 1498 Udine or Venice. Family name was probably Semolei.Worked in Rome and Florence in the 1530's, settled in Rome. His father and son, Giacomo, were also printmakers. Died in Venice 1561. Often signed his prints BFVF (Battista Franco Venetis Fecit).~~Reference: Bartsch, Adam. Le Peintre-Graveur. vol. 16.
