Artist Biography: Born in Saint-Hippolyte (Doubs) on 12 February 1621, died in Rome 14 November 1676.Famous as a painter of battle scenes, worked mostly in Italy, where he was known as Giacomo Cortese, Il Borgognone. Thieme-Becker insists he died in 1675, but BÈnÈzit and Hellman catalogue say 1676.
