Artist Biography: Painter and architect, born Paris 1722, died Auteuil January 1820. Won Prix-de-Rome in 1751. Made many architectural drawings after the monuments in Italy; much appreciated by the English, notably Adam who had his work engraved. Also worked as court architect for the Empress of Russia and was a member of the Academy of St. Petersburg. Made a knight of the Legion of Honor, Paris (signs his work C. ClÈrisseau for Chevalier)
