Artist Biography: Born in Tasmania, came to England in 1911. Record of his World War I (awarded M.C.) experiences in group of powerful linocuts around which Henry Williamson wrote The Patriot's Progress. Pioneered the use of linocut, along with Claude Flight, Cyril Power, Peter Luling, etc. Illustrated books (as The Speciliast, publ., Putnam), worked as graphic designer for Evening Standard, taught at Grosvenor School of Modern Art. Exhibited in London galleries, especially Redfern. Participated in first British exhibition of linocuts at Gateshead Art Gallery. Wrote technical books and articles on linocut and scraperboard.
