Artist Biography: Painter and printmaker. First studied under Claude Henriet, and afterwards went to Paris, where he became a scholar of Simon Vouet. Was well-known in Nancy, Lorraine, as a painter of portraits at the beginning of the 17th century. From 1602 to 1616 he was in the service of the Duke of Lorraine, Charles III, for whom he executed decorative works at the ducal palace. This work represented themes from Roman history. He also made religious works. Numerous engravings, but very few paintings survive. Style is characteristic of the refined spirit which reigned in the courts of the dukes of Lorraine throughout the beginning of the 17th century.~~Other dates?: c. 1580 to c. 1638.
