Artist Biography: Born 1902 in France, in 1906 was taken to Japan by his family. In 1908 began study of brush-painting under the scholar Mochizuki, later became interested in Ukiyo-e woodblock printing. In 1920 joined the staff of the French Embassy as interpreter. From 1929 spent winters in the South Seas. From 1936 to his death in Japan in 1960 produced prints in the Ukiyo-e manner.
