Artist Biography: Shoichi Ida is a painter, sculptor and printmaker. He was born In Kyoto, Japan, and grew up there during World War II and its aftermath. The city had a concentration of art and architectural resources to which he was exposed. At Kyoto Municipal University of Art, Ida received Western-style academic training, a trend in occupied Japan immediately after the war. He discovered his heritage during the late 1960*s while spending three years in Paris, and in New York where he lived two years later.
