Artist Biography: Born James Dine. Studied at University of Cincinnati, Boston Museum School, and Ohio University to 1958; lives in New York; early creator of Happenings and Environments (with Claes Oldenburg).~~Prominent figure in American Pop Art, best known for combination of real objects set against backgrounds of textured painted surfaces. Considered a pioneer of the "process" or performance art of the late 60s/early 70s. Later turned to representational painting of a traditional, classical type.
