Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Staatlichen Museums für Völkerkunde, Dresden; acquired by the museum at E. Gerrard auction, London, 1900." (Catalog #485, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 166.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "The figure represents an ancestral clan mother. It is believed to have been used during the gimaiyata ceremonies, attached to a male dancer's conical hat (diba). It is probably the first Gogodala figure to have been collected, but superior and older ones were found in the early years of the 20th century." (Catalog #485, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 166.) 1981 - Crawford, 1981: 293 and no. 231.
