Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Collected by Thomas Schultze-Westrum in 1966." (Catalog #468, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 163.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "Before this gope was found in a hut, it had been displayed in a ceremonial house (dubu weneh) where it was associated with a skull shrine (awae), named Biwara. It was carved by Amae, the father of an informant of the collector. It was said that Amae's "grandfather" had migrated from O'a, the village of origin of all Urama, Gope, and most of the Era villages (Schultze-Westrum, 1972, text to pl. 49).
