Douglas Collection, in his private museum at Shepparton, Austrailia, which was disbanded in the late 1970s or early 1980s." (Catalog #403, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 151.)
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "The drums of the southern Massim area are larger and more elaborately decorated then those of the Trobriand and Marshall Bennett islands. The semi-anthropomorphic handle here may be unique among extant Massim drums. The figure appears to have a proboscis but perhaps this is a bracket to anchor its head to the drum. It may be a cuscus or other tree-dwelling marsupial, or a stylized human being."
