PROVENANCE: Jolika Collection of New Guinea Art
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This figure and pl. 249 appear to have been carved by the same artist and were reunited in our collection after being separated for nearly a century. The hornbill figures prominently in their design. The beak of one bird hovers over the forehead to meet that of another one rising up from the chin, their tips almost touching in front of the eyes. Somewhat similar flute ornaments were published in Altman, 1967, figs. 161 and 161A, with the provenance "Near Yuat River.""
