Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "This mask and the flute ornament, pl. 102, were purchased in the 1950s by my mother, Mrs. Evelyn A. Hall, at the Charles Ratton Gallery, Paris. She showed extraordinary prescience about where her young son was headed." (Catalog #240, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 121.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "Unlike customary design, this bird is reversed, biting the man's nose. There is a related mask, without a reversed bird, in the American Museum of Natural History, New York (personal observation)." (Catalog #240, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 121.)
