Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Museum fur Volkerkunde, Dresden." (Catalog #141, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 104.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "An arrow point appears to be lodged in the left forehead of the mask. A similar mask, complete with feather and shell decorations, was displayed in the Papua New Guinea National Museum, Port Moresby, in 1981. The personal name of that mask is Pansimakan and it was from the Biwat village of Akuran. See Craig, 1981: 45. Another somewhat similar mask in the Museum der Kulturen, Basel, was collected by Dadi Wirz in Kinakaton (Kinakaten) village in 1962. Kinakaton is immediately north of Biwat, Branda, and Akuran villages. See Schmitz, 1971: 197."
