Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Acquired from Jacques Kercharche in the 1980s. Reportedly from the former collection of Sir Jacob Epstein, London, but there is no documentation." (Catalog #105, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 98.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "Originally the hook would be been suspended by a loop carved behind the head. After the head was lost, it continued to be used, as can be seen by the wear below the chest. Despite the loss, the figure's graceful stance and sense of movement is very appealing." (Catalog #105, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 98.)
