Artist Biography: (none)
PROVENANCE: Jolika Collection of New Guinea Art
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This carving was probably installed in one of the highly decorated ceremonial houses that existed near Arape. The ancestors are portrayed in an affectionate pose and in a posture that implies sexual equality between the male and female. Both aspects are rather uncommon in New Guinea imagery. See Dirk Smidt's essay this volume. There is a female figure in a similar style in the Museo Preistorico Etnographico L. Pigorini, Rome (see Rocchi, 1971, no. 66)." (Catalogue #23, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 87.)
