Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: Jolika Collection of New Guinea Art PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "Drums from the Purari delta are characterized by incised curvilinear patterns filled with lime, in which a stylized face is always the central motif. The star-shaped designs below the face, however, are not frequently encountered on these drums (cf. Lewis, 1931, pl. xli; Bodrogi, 1961b, fig. 78; Bodrogi, 1981, vol. 1, fig. 103; Newton, 1961, fig. 193; Smidt, 1975, figs. 24-29; and Mamiya and Sumnik, 1982, figs. 26, 27)."
