PROVENANCE: Jolika Collection of New Guinea Art
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This shield is a known type from the region west of Mount Hagen. The fact that its thick patina of pigment has been preserved is very unusual. Other examples that I have seen do not have this thick pigment. All have the same dynamic pattern as this example." (Catalog #588, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 190.)
