PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This carving was placed in a recess on the thatched facade of an Iatmul ceremonial house (see Kocher Schmid in Greub, 1985: 184). Enemy skulls were often similarly placed. This may have been a substitute, and has suffered from long exposure to weathering." (Catalog #171, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 110.)
