PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "Paalen was one of the surrealist artists who emigrated to Mexico to escape the Nazis. His collection, especially of American Northwest Coast art, was exceptional. Tragically, he died an apparent suicide in the Mexican desert. This hook relates to the skull holder in the de Menil Collection (Hopps, 1987, fig. 120)."
