Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: Jolika Collection of New Guinea Art PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "The brut quality of Wogamush carvings is well represented here. The crescent-shaped mouth is a style characteristic of Wogamush art, and is particularly pronounced in masks (see Newton, 1971, figs. 89-90). It may be hard to find an example where the mouth is so dominant a feature of the face. Newton (1966: 206) states that the Wogamush were an offshoot of the Iatmul Parambei people who moved upriver some time in the past and were temporarily known as the Koparau people." (Catalog #350, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 140.)
