PROVENANCE: "Douglas Newton Collection, New York." (Catalog #352, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 140.)
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This arrow was collected by Newton at Wagu, a Bahinemo village. He states that this type of arrow 'extends to the Leonard Schultze Rivers (Saniyo or Pai)' (Newton, 1971: 31). A similar arrow said to have been used for hunting and, in the past, for killing people, is published in Wheatcroft, 1988, fig. 4. He states it orginated with the Mountain Ok tribes in Sandaun Province." (Catalog #352, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 140.)
