Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Collected by Anthony Forge. Anthony Forge Collection, Sydney; Douglas Newton Collection, New York." (Catalog #322, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 135.) EXHIBITIONS: 1991 - The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1991, "New Guinea Bone Carvings." PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This object is an elaborate version of what Douglas Newton described as an 'asperging tool' (personal communication). It was used by a sorcerer to sprinkle a magic substance A related object in the Papua New Guinea National Museum was collected by Noel Mc Guigan. These implements consist of a bone tube with surface decorations, but usually lack the bird or other finials."
