PROVENANCE: "Linden-Museum, Stuttgart." (Catalog #570, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 185.)
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "The registration number written on the object indicates it was one of the first objects to enter the Linden-Museum, Stuttgart. I have not seen any comparable pieces. Perhaps there is a relationship between this carved fish and other fish ornaments reported by Van der Sande, "...stuffed and painted fish skins (pl. xxiii, fig. 2)...manufactured from the leaf sheath of the sago palm [was] obtained from the eastern temple of Waba, which building has however more the purpose of a watch-house" (1907: 148)."
