EXHIBITIONS: 1930 - Galerie Pigalle, Paris, 1930, "Afrique Océanie."
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "The Janus images of stylized creatures are exceptional. In fact, each Janus image seems to consist of a fish head and a human head (carved at the rear side of the fish head) reflecting the merging of spirits with animals as is frequently encountered in Iatmul mythology. The fish head may be that of a catfish or perhaps a sawfish (without its rostrum). Compare with Kelm, 1966, fig. 409; Coiffier, 2001: 212, fig. 145; and Kaeppler, Kaufmann, and Newton, 1997, fig. 615 for the sawfish idea." (Catalog #206, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 115.)
1930 - Galerie Pigalle, 1930, no. 343.
