Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Robert Emile Bouchard Collection, Montreuil, France." (Catalog #390, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 149.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This bird resembles a stone bird head from the Huon region in the Missionswerk der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Kirche in Bayern, Neuendettelsau, Germany. The Yabim have an ill-defined connection to the Sulka people of New Britain (see Jeudy-Ballini, 2003: 110), who also employed this unusual green coloring. It may have been made using a medicinal powder obtained from the Japanese troops during World War II. The Sulka headdress/mask ornaments of animal and human figures resemble the carvings of Yabim."
