PROVENANCE: "Collected on La Korrigane Expedition, 1935 (D.39.3/856) in Kaningara village. The purchase price was a small axe. Ernst Heinrich Collection, Bad Canstadt, Stuttgart." EXHIBITIONS: 1985-88 - Tribal Art Centre, Base, 1985-88, "Authority and Ornament."
PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "Kelm, 1966, vol. 1, nos. 196 and 197, publishes two examples collected in the Iatmul villages of Yentchan and Kararau in 1912 on the Kaiserin-Augusta River Expedition. These shields were traded over the middle Sepik region, but their origin was with the Kaningara people."
