Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Ronald and Hortense Clyne Collection, Brooklyn, New York." (Catalog #265, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 124.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This small version of a large yipwon hook carvings represents the personal guardian spirit of the individual hunter-warrior. There are both legged and the more rare non-legged versions as well as examples with only a rudimentary leg or knob-shaped extension at the bottom. See Haberland and Seyfarth, 1974, pl. 32, no. 2 for a comparable example from Yanitobak village, and pl. 28-33 for an overview of the various types and variations in design.
