PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "This mask is defined by its powerful, expressionist image. Its bold and archaic style place it, and the telum figure (pl. 363), among my favorites in the collection. Note the pierced and elongated earlobes with the rendering of turtle shell ornaments, the circular motif immediately above the nose representing a boar's tusk, and the ribbed pattern on the forehead and the sides of the head probably referring to a band of Nassa shells. A drawing of a dancer with a similar mask by Nikolai N. Miklouho-Maclay is reproduced in Bodrogi, 1953, fig. 42."
