PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "I purchased this piece, sight unseen, from Emile de la Taille on the recommendation of Michael Kan. Once again, I wish to thank them both. (P.S. "Sight unseen" is usually a very bad idea!) This type of mask made of coconut bast but with a wooden nose combines the coconut bast mask tradition of New Britain with the wooden mask tradition of New Guinea mainland. A detailed description of these masks' use, meaning, and context is provided in Smidt, 1990, cat. 118."
