Artist Biography: (none) PROVENANCE: "Collected by Thomas Schultze-Westrum in 1966." (Catalog #460, New Guinea Art: Masterpieces from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, 2005, Volume 2, p. 162.) PUBLICATIONS: 2005 - "The Vandercook kakame figure in the Brooklyn Museum has a related design. See Kaeppler, Kaufmann, and Newton, 1997, fig. 241, and Newton, 1961, fig. 148. The figure on this gope appears to be giving birth. For the function and meaning of gope, see pl. 458."
