Artist Biography: Ceramic sculptor. Born Panagiotis Harry Voulkos to Greek immigrant parents in Bozeman, Montana in 1924. Airplane gunner in WW II, art student after the war at Montana State University. Masters from California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland. 1954 started ceramics department at what became Otis Art Institute Los Angeles. Established ceramic department at UC Berkeley 1959. Numerous museum collections, prizes, fellowships, honorary doctorates. Lived and worked in Oakland. Died in Bowling Green Ohio after teaching ceramics workshop there.
