Artist Biography: Born in Cairo, Illinois in 1868. Left home after disaster in father's glue factory. Traveled widely, drawing as he went, and earned a living in various ways. Painted signs. In Tahiti, Samoa in 1904. Continued to travel and paint. In 1921 bought land in Coytesville, New Jersey and began to make prints (etchings and lithographs). Experimented with techniques.
