Artist Biography: Born in San Francisco, one of six children. Painter and printmaker specializing in marine subjects. Ca. 1893 sent to school in Scotland, sailing around Cape Horn. with Scottish captain. This began his interst in marine subjects. Sailed on the Balclutha, then part of the Alaska Packers fleet, with his brother Kenneth, late commissioned to do series of etchings depicting life at sea.
