Artist Biography: Born in Hinckange-en-Moselle 13 December 1822. Daguerreotype studio in Paris. Partnershipwith Mayer brothers 1855. Inventor of carte-de-visite camera 1859. 1865 sole owner of firm after LÈopold Mayer died. 1874 sold studio to son-in-law Gaston Braun and helped him after Adolphe Braun*s death 1877. Died in 1913.
