Artist Biography: Became a U.S. citizen in 1985.~~EDUCATION:~1959 Kwansei Gakuin University, BA in Aesthetics, Japan~1968 Otis Art Institute, BA & MFA, Los Angeles, CA~~Masami is interested in a dialogue on contemporary social, political, environmental, sexual and other issues. His work expresses the~human drama of contemporary life. New challenges to the eternal human condition continuously motivate his creativity. In order to tackle contemporary issues, Masami reaches into the past, basing his early paintings on Japanese woodblock prints. His recent work has gone in~another direction, combining Japanese print and painting traditions with western aesthetics, inspired by religious and aesthetic themes from the~Renaissance, which he updates as if to carry on a cross-epoch conversation.
