Artist Biography: Born in Canada in 1876, moved to Boston when very young, studied art in Boston. Went to Europe at twenty-two, traveled extensively in England, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. Devoted himself almost exclusively to etching. Although he spent little time in the U.S. he contributed to print exhibitions in this country and was a member of the American Society of Etchers. Died in Europe in 1938. There is a catalogue by Marie Bruette, Descriptive Catalogue of the Etched Workd of Donald Shaw MacLaughlan, with an introduction by Marie Bruette (A. Roullier Art Galleries, Chicago, 1925) but very few were printed. In 1933 Alice Roullier gave about 150 etchings to the Toledo Museum of Art. Where the Bruette catalogue number was given on the old Achenbach sheets it is indicated here, but there was no way to verify the accuracy of this information.
