Artist Biography: James Blanding Sloan. painter, woodcarver, etcher, puppeteer. Bron Corsicana, Texas 19 Septepmber 1886. Studied at Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, shared studio with B.J.O. Nordfeldt. Interst in color etching. Studio in New York, designed stage sets. From mid-1920s in San Francisco where he also had a puppet theater. Early 1930s tto Hollywood as designer of stage sets. 1934 in charge of WPA Federal Theater in Los Angeles. Stage designer also in Dallas and New York, then back to Los Angeles. Died in Hayward CA. 5 October 1975.
