Artist Biography: Chicano poster artist. ~MA, University of California, Berkeley, 1981~MA, San Francisco State University, 1970~BA, San Francisco State University, 1968~Lives in Oakland, California.~~One founder of Chicano art movement. Actively involved in civil rights movement and opposition to Vietnam War. Defines himself as a "critical artist," or more simply, a concerned human being.~~A twenty-five-year body of work speaks to issues of a shrinking global village, where ethnic and national boundaries have begun to warp. Garcia~uses borrowed imagery, quotation, and juxtaposition of image and text as part of his strategy for critique and resistance.
