Artist Biography: Nathan Oliveira is a distinguished artist and professor, greatly respected for his lithographs, monotypes and paintings. He is an accomplished printmaker who began an association with Crown Point Press in 1994, when it published five prints including the aquatint, *Dog Man,*1994 (no. 164 in the exhibition catalogue, Thirty-Five Years at Crown Point Press: Making Prints, Doing Art ). He recently contributed five prints to the figurative portfolio, *Live Model Group,* which Crown Point Press released in September, 1997.~~His works have been exhibited nationally and internationally. This summer the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco honored Olivera with the exhibition, Variations In Time/Nathan Oliveira/Monotypes and Monoprints at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. ~~PERSONAL HISTORY:~Nathan Oliveira was born in 1928 in Oakland, California and grew up in the Bay Area. He lives with his wife, Ramona, in Stanford, California. They have two daughters and a son. ~~EDUCATION:~Oliveira studied painting and printmaking at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) in Oakland, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1951 and a Master of Fine Arts in 1952. CCAC awarded him with an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in 1968.~~ACADEMIC CAREER:~In 1955, after two years in the Army Oliveira began teaching painting at his alma mater, CCAC, and drawing and printmaking at the California School of Fine Arts, now known as the San Francisco Art Institute. He was head of the CSFA graphics department from 1956 until 1960. In 1964 he became an Associate Professor of Art at Stanford University and was appointed the Ann O*Day Maples Professor in the Arts 1988. He is now Professor Emeritus (retired).~~~~~~
