Artist Biography: other names used: Utagawa Masaki, Shin'emon, Tajimaya Shojiro, Ichiryusai, Sen'o, Senryu-sai, Shojiro, Shoju, Toyoharu; Ukiyo-e painter, printmaker; studied in Kyoto under the Kano master Tsuruzawa Tangei; from about 1763 studied under Shigenaga and Toriyama Sekien in Edo; his earliest works were prints, but in the 1780's and 90's did paintings pioneering in views of foreign lands; did some prints after Dutch and German engravings;
